Lincolnland District Convention

LINCOLNLAND ATTENDS NATIONAL CONVENTION
Fourteen members from various Ruritan Clubs in Lincolnland attended the 77th Ruritan National Convention held recently in Nashville, TN in the Opryland Hotel. The members attending from Lincolnland included District Governor Kenneth Gray and Eva from Wayne City, IL; Ruritan National Director Howard Tanner and Lt. District Governor Beverly Tanner of the Geff, IL and Illiana Ruritan; Past District Secretary Sue Case, Marilyn Bledsoe, and Mary Pepple of Hymera, IN Ruritan; Past District Jim Zehr and Marcia of Dubois, IN and Illiana Ruritan; Past National Director Grover Burkett and Leota, and District Treasurer Ethel Witsman of Dundas, IL; and Illiana Ruritan, and Jerry and Linda Adamson from Sumner, IL and Illiana Ruritan.
The first activity was the Ruritan National Foundation held on Thursday afternoon. Howard Tanner, retiring National Director, received the prestigious Tom Downing Award from the Lincolnland District.
The Thursday evening program was the opening ceremony including the Memorial Service, Vesper Service, and Flag Ceremony. The special speaker was Clebe McClary. He was introduced by his wife who was also an excellent speaker. Clebe was injured in the Viet Nam war. He lost his lower left arm and his left eye. Clebe and his wife travel world wide providing a message of courage and determination.
Friday started with a Family Breakfast honoring Ruritan Families. The Friday Business Session was followed the Friday Luncheon. Several people were recognized during the session. One of the main events was the presentation of Rudy Bears to the State Troopers as well as the Children’s Hospital. Most of the Ruritan Members attended the Grand Ole Opry in the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville.
The Election of National Officers was the first item of the Day. It was followed the First Lady Breakfast honoring First Lady Fran Bristow. The speaker was Dale Smith Thomas who was very entertaining.
The Business Session followed. The main item was the recognition of club as well as retiring officers. Jim Zehr picked up a plaque for the Crossville Ruritan. Jim Zehr received a Past District Governor Plaque. Howard Tanner received a Past National Director Plaque.
The Installation Banquet was held on Saturday evening. Jim Zehr was installed as National Director along with other Directors as well as the other National Officers including Ruritan National President Wayne Outlaw.
The Convention ended with a Church Service on Sunday Morning with Dr. Russell Dean singing and preaching during the 30 minute service.
